I can't believe it's 15 years since we did our first “buddy trip”. The idea from my colleague Steve Cracknell and myself was take small group of clients to Michael Weinig AG in a chilled and relaxed manner. No hard sell, have a brief overview of the Weinig range of machines and see what happens. The relaxed manner is the same today.
Over the years, we've seen the launch of some superb machinery. The Powermat range of machines, Conturex through feed CNC, we were even lucky enough to be given a tour of the first Cube prior to its launch, what a success that machine turned out to be!
A “buddy trip” is normally over 2 days flying out from Heathrow into Frankfurt or Stuttgart. Driving to the factory in Tauberbischofsheim and spending time watching rewarding demonstrations and a tour of the Weinig Factory. The evening is spent discussing the ideas of the day over a Litre or two of German Bier (remember no additives in this stuff) before going to bed and a well-earned rest. I wish I had taken shares out in Distelhauser 30 years ago, I’d have owned the local brewery by now!
Day two is spent mainly in the demonstration area but also on individual needs for clients either discussion or advice before heading back to the airport for our return flight to blighty.
I have no idea how many people have been to that factory with us but I can say anyone who takes time to visit Michael Weinig AG is always amazed with the technology that is on display. With four demonstration areas there is something for everyone.
